| Hello SENIA friends, Today, in the USA, we are celebrating Thanksgiving. While I know that SENIA members come from all over the globe, I just want to take some time today to thank you.
Thank you, for living SENIA's mission and vision which is to live in an inclusive world where every individual is supported, resources are accessible, potential is maximized, and action is inspired. Thank you for attending our conferences, taking our coursework, networking with others in the field, and being your student's/child's number one advocate. Thank you for recognizing that it is the relationships we build with the individuals under our care that matter the most. Thank you for working so hard each and every day. Few can understand the long hours you spend planning lessons, working toward student goals, and thinking...always thinking how you can better support them. Thank you for helping others in your workplace or school learn that the students we support are ALL of our students and by working as a team and planning lessons giving voice and choice, our students feel heard and cared for. I continue to be inspired by all of you and your commitment to joining the Inclusion Revolution. Thank you for being you. Lori Boll SENIA International Executive Director Friendly Reminder: We have lots to share in our newsletter. When you see 3 dots, be sure to click "see more" so you don't miss out on anything.

November was a busy month for our local chapters! Find out what the Hong Kong and Vietnam chapters were up to recently:
Our newly revived Hong Kong chapter had a first gathering in Hong Kong Central district on November 16th. The chapter members had a wonderful time getting to know each other in a friendly casual atmosphere. We hope to turn this into a regular event and develop new connections with those interested in promoting the SENIA mission here in Hong Kong.
On November 19th, 2022, the SENIA Vietnam chapter hosted two face-to-face events, one in Hanoi and one in Ho Chi Minh City. It was an inspiring morning for like-minded parents, educators and specialists to connect. Lots of great ideas were shared at both events, and we all walked away with a strong united desire to build a better support network for children and their families. Special thanks to RMIT University for providing the venue and catering for our Ho Chi Minh city event.

What We Are Reading- Book Launch! |
Becoming a Totally Inclusive School: A Guide for Teachers and School Leaders by Angeline Aow, Sadie Hollins, & Stephen Whitehead Join SENIA Directors April Remfrey and Jay Lingo on December 8th as they introduce you to Angeline Aow and Sadie Hollins, two of the authors of Becoming a Totally Inclusive School.
Angeline was one of our keynote presenters at the SENIA Europe conference and made quite an impact on our audience. Book Description:
"Educators are at a crossroads and the global call for institutions to address their inequitable structures is ringing loudly. For teachers and school leaders who are hearing that call, this book offers knowledge and guidance for becoming a Totally Inclusive school.
Each chapter delves into key ideas that are fundamental to addressing the complex challenge of achieving Total Inclusivity – one which encompasses and values racial diversity, gender equality, LGBTQ+ inclusivity, neurodiversity and more. Across the three sections, the authors introduce key terms and concepts important to inclusivity, focused on mindsets, behaviours and systems and structures. Explore how interactions contribute to or impede progress, and engage with tools, stories and reflection points to translate knowledge into practice.
Written in an accessible style with reflective exercises in every chapter, the book will guide educational professionals along the pathway to becoming advocates for inclusivity in their schools and communities." We hope you'll join us for this exciting book launch. See you there!

From September 29th - October 1, 2022, Bonn International School opened their campus to host our first in-person SENIA conference since 2019. Here are a few words from SENIA Executive Director, Lori Boll; "Over 100 educators, parents, and professionals, from 23 countries and 37 schools and organizations, came together to learn from experts, share resources, and network with one another. All of us were there with a common goal of being “All In” to create more inclusive schools. We would once again like to thank Bonn International School and Helle Moller-Sorenson and Kristine Border for all they took on to organize and host the conference at their school".
Here are some reflections from our attendees: "The conference was well organized and balanced so we had enough time to hear presenters but also to talk to each other and share our experiences. I enjoyed a variety of topics. Social was fantastic." ~ Anon.
"I really enjoyed the pre-conference day with Angeline. I enjoyed the relative smallness of the conference so I could get to know people well, and at the same time meet new people and had diverse conversations. I really enjoyed all of the keynote speakers as well! I found that I felt inspired and re-energized after listening and sharing with so many who are on a similar path. Oh, and the food was amazing!" ~ Colleen "Top-notch quality of the content of the workshops and inspiriting presenters. I left with a plethora of ideas to bring back to my school and hope to bring about change towards a more inclusive school." ~ Stephanie We hope many more of you will join us at our next in-person conference. |
