Last week, I had the solemn privilege of attending a celebration of life for a dear friend who recently passed away. In the days leading up to the event, her partner shared the details on social media, and as condolences poured in, news of her passing rippled through our extended network. Former grade school acquaintances, some of whom we hadn't heard from in decades, reached out with their own memories, recounting moments of her kindness and inclusivity. It was a testament to the impact she had on everyone she encountered.

As educators, we often find ourselves pulled in multiple directions, balancing countless demands for our time and attention. However, this recent experience served as a poignant reminder of something fundamental: we teach students, not subjects. Our most important task is to nurture the individual, fostering a sense of belonging and support that extends far beyond the confines of the classroom. In the midst of life's chaos, let us never forget the profound impact we have on those around us. Let us strive to emulate the kindness and inclusivity that defined my dear friend's legacy.
