Canada Greener Homes Initiative is Transitioning
The federal government's Canada Greener Homes Initiative is ending some of its current programming. The program is no longer accepting applications for the Canada Greener Homes Grant, however, the Canada Greener Homes Loan and the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program remain open. According to the government's press release, "Canadians who have already applied for the Canada Greener Homes Grant
can be assured that their applications will be processed and that the hundreds of thousands of required energy evaluations will continue as planned for the duration of the program." In the same press release, the federal government announced it will establish a new phase of the Canada Greener Homes Initiative
. As a key part of Canada’s forthcoming Canada Green Buildings Strategy, which will focus on energy and housing affordability, this next phase will offer supports that are more accessible to Canadian households with low to median incomes, so that energy cost-savings are available to those who need them most. Stay tuned to the program website
for further updates. Reminder: provincial rebate programs in BC continue to operate and require homeowners to hire a member of the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN)
to be eligible. |

| F280 Software Verification Results
Webinar | Wednesday, February 21 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM PST | Free
The CSA F280-12 Standard provides the calculation procedures for determining the Design Heat Loss (DHL) and Design Heat Gain (DHG) values that are essential for sizing heating and air conditioning equipment. While provincial building codes called for equipment to be sized in accordance with CSA F280-12, the standard had no set accuracy tolerance limits and no verification procedures for software claiming to be compliant with the CSA standard. To address this issue, HVAC Designers of Canada collaborated with Natural Resources Canada to develop a methodology to complete verification testing of software tools to validate compliance with F280-12.
At this webinar, HVAC Designers of Canada will share the testing process as well as the results of the testing, including which software tools have been verified. |

| HPCN REQUIRED COURSES - OPTION 1 TECA Principles of Moving Air Online | Classes starting Mar 18, 2024 | $659 + GST (non-members)*
This course will benefit those working in the New, Retrofit or Repair portions of the industry. It was developed to give those who are designing or installing duct systems the ability to create quiet, efficient systems which deliver the required volumes while using the least fan energy. Today, furnaces, heat pumps and ventilation systems require larger volumes of air to be moved. Duct fitting shape, the number of fittings, air filters, coils all contribute to reduced flow in ductwork.
*Special Offer for Kootenays* CEA has organized an in-person offering of the POMA course and is offering a $150 subsidy for those joining from the Kootenay, Boundary, and Columbia Basin regions.
To learn more or to register, follow the links below: TECA Heat Loss/Heat Gain Course
Online | Classes starting Mar 11, 2024 | $385 + GST (non-members)*
The course is intended to help participants perform accurate and code-compliant heat loss and heat gain calculations. The BC Building Code calls for CSA F280-12 for calculation of heat loss and heat gain, for Part 9 buildings. The TECA Heat Loss / Gain software has been designed to give users an accurate and simple way to calculate heating and cooling loads by the CSA F280-12 calculation methods. *HPCN members are eligible for a 100% reimbursement plus contribution towards wages. Visit homeperformance.ca/HPCN to learn more about membership and training subsidies. |

| HPCN REQUIRED COURSES - OPTION 2 70% off - HRAI Basic Principles of Residential Ventilation Online | On-Demand | $26.70 + tax*
Through this online course, participants are introduced to the basic principles of residential ventilation. The course starts by defining the concepts known as “House as a System”; the flow of air, heat and water and how these impact natural ventilation (i.e., air leakage). The course includes a description of the theory of mechanical airflow including air pressure, duct resistance and fan ratings. A review of the impact on combustion appliances, humidity levels and indoor air quality is also provided.
70% off - HRAI Residential Heat Loss & Heat Gain Calculations Online
| Classes starting Mar 5, 2024 | $408 + tax*
Based on the CSA Standard F280-12, students get a firsthand introduction of the basic principles of building science and heat loss/gain. Through various in-class exercises, the student will learn how to determine the thermal resistance (R value) of various building assemblies, such as walls and ceilings. Accurately, calculate room by room heat loss and gain while considering the influences of occupancy, exposure, ventilation, air leakage across the building envelope and more. *Use Promo Code "FortisBC" to obtain 70% off at checkout. HPCN members are eligible for a 100% reimbursement plus contribution towards wages. Visit homeperformance.ca/HPCN to learn more about membership and training subsidies. |
