Our October Members' Meeting was packed with insights around two crucial topics for Canada's CIOs: realizing digital ID and restoring trust in digital technologies. Below, you'll find a recap of the meeting, along with outcomes and suggested resources to dive deeper on any of the topics.

- The meeting was opened, and Catherine Luelo was welcomed as the Council’s new Co-Chair. Catherine steps into the position following her appointment as Canada’s CIO this summer.
- Marc Brouillard was thanked for his work in steering the Council during an unprecedented year.
- A warm welcome was extended to representatives from three new members: Canadian Tire Bank, Desjardins, and Valeyo.
- The Council’s all-of-Canada approach to creating standards and building trusted digital infrastructure to spur innovation based on Canadian values was highlighted.
- The Sustainable IT Advisory Committee and signatories of the Sustainable IT Pledge were commended for the Pledge’s launch in August and their continued commitment to reducing the environmental impact of technology.
PANEL 1
Securing Digital Identities & Credentials at Scale
With Canada lacking a legislative agenda for digital identity, the panel shared their views on strategies to facilitate more effective domestic coordination across public and private companies, governments and not for profit organizations. The discussion highlighted how digital identity is scaling across federal and provincial services, and the urgency of expanding the application of pan-Canadian approaches across and between public and private sector services.

The panel was followed by an open discussion led by Joni Brennan, President of Digital ID & Authentication Council of Canada.
- Express interest in providing technical contributions to the development of a national technical specification on digital credentials and digital trust services (CIOSC/TS 115).
- Keep up to date on the latest specification work from DIACC, W3C, and ISO/IEC.
PANEL 2
ADDRESSING THE DIGITAL TRUST DEFICIT
Technology is no longer a trusted sector in Canada. This discussion underscored public policy instruments and co-regulatory models that can help address the digital trust deficit and provide confidence in the adoption of emerging technologies. The panel also shared their perspectives on the importance of improving technology literacy among the public and key considerations in developing successful digital trust and certification programs.

The panel was followed by an open discussion with Éloïse Gratton, Partner at Borden Ladner Gervais, and Paul Vallee, CEO of Tehama.
- Check out My Health Data Path, a new website from Roche that aims to make the value of health data easier to understand. The site, which will be launched on Nov. 2, answers common questions around health data.
- Comment on the proposed drafts of three standards on data governance, which are currently available for public review.
