Welcome to our monthly round-up of activity in the International Hospital Federation Secretariat and featured news highlights from our members and partners.

Who will participate in Young Executive Leaders 2022? We're delighted to welcome this year's Young Executive Leaders. From almost 200 applications across IHF member organizations, 42 candidates from 26 countries and territories have been selected for the programme. Beginning in May, YEL participants can look forward to masterclasses and group activities, building a network with international healthcare executives, and taking an active role in the World Hospital Congress in November. Thanks to WittKieffer, who provide ongoing support for the curriculum and leadership development of the YEL programme, as well as Jackson Healthcare, International Health Services Foundation and the IHF’s Dr Kwang Tae Kim Trust Fund for offering sponsorship funding to enable participation from candidates in lower-income settings.
Sustainability on the programme at the Geneva Health Forum The IHF team will be participating in the Geneva Health Forum on 3 to 5 May. In particular, we're looking forward to the session on “Global health as seen by field actors: from awareness to action”, with panelist Sonia Roschnik, Executive Director of the IHF’s Geneva Sustainability Centre. The panel will provide insights about the levers of action available to health professionals to integrate global health issues, and mitigate environmental impact, in their practice.
Online simulation training for hospital executives with exclusive coaching offer for the IHF's network SDA Bocconi School of Management is running an online course for hospital leaders from 22 to 25 June: Hospital Management: The Simulation and the Pandemic. Including a comprehensive, strategic exercise for the executive leadership team of a hospital, delegates will test and strengthen their managerial, decision-making, and organizational skills. Participants who register using the special code "IHF22" will also benefit from 1 free online coaching session from SDA Bocconi Faculty following the course.
Introducing the IHF Awards 2022 Committee The Awards Committee in 2022 will again be chaired by Dr Lawrence Lai, an honorary member of the IHF from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority. Dr Lai will be joined on the committee with representatives from IHF Members worldwide. Nominations for the IHF Awards 2022 are open until 31 May. The presentation of the IHF Awards will take place at a special Awards Ceremony at the 45th IHF World Hospital Congress on 10 November.
Free membership of GS1 Healthcare for hospitals GS1 Healthcare, a premier member of the IHF, is offering free membership to hospitals. GS1 is a neutral, not for profit open community leading the successful development of global standards enhancing patient safety, operational and supply chain efficiencies. GS1 standards are required by over 70 regulators around the world for healthcare product identification and traceability at national, regional, and local levels. Find out more about the benefits of global standards and how they can improve safety, efficacy, and efficiency.
IHF Members shared international perspectives on global health system recovery at the ACHE virtual symposium Contributing their global perspectives, the IHF brought together Juan Pablo Uribe, World Bank and Global Financing Facility for Women Children and Adolescents (GFF), Mohamed Hablas, Saudi German Hospitals, Egypt and North Africa, Preetha Reddy, Apollo Hospitals Group, India, and Cédric Lussiez, Groupe Hospitalier Nord Essonne, France.
Welcoming IHF Members in three new countries/territories: Palestine, Singapore and Zimbabwe We're delighted to introduce three of the IHF's newest members. The Augusta Victoria Hospital provides specialty care for Palestinians from across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with services including a cancer centre, a dialysis unit, and a pediatric centre. Tan Tock Seng Hospital serves 1.4 million people living in central Singapore, collaborating with 70 community partners and 80 community health posts as an integrated care organization. Baines Intercare Medical Centre is a private medical facility in Harare, including an accident and emergency unit, acute care, specialist services, laboratory, and pharmacy.
IHF Members and partners in Germany and Switzerland benefitted from international exchange on study tour It was the IHF team's pleasure to welcome a delegation from the German Hospital Federation (GHF) to Geneva on 31 March as part of their study trip to exchange with leaders of Switzerland's hospitals and health service providers. The delegation was led by Dr Gerald Gass, IHF Governing Council Member, and Marc Schreiner, Chairman of the "Committee of European Affairs of the GHF.
