May 2022 Newsletter Dear Subscribers,
We would like to start by acknowledging âThe Stolen Generationsâ, on today, National Sorry Day. Reconciliation is not possible without first accepting the truths of our history.
In lighter news, May has been a month of celebration. We were delighted to attend the inaugural Association of Artists Managers Awards, which were held at Music Market. Congratulations to former Music Victoria Board member Cath Haridy on winning the Community Engagement Award. Later on, we found ourselves at the APRA Awards, where Tones and I performed an outstanding cover of Amyl and The Sniffers' Guided By Angels alongside a choir!
We also welcomed the election of the Albanese Labor Government at a federal level, and the Victorian Governmentâs 2022-23 State Budget. The budget includes support for local artists via the Victorian Music First licensing initiative, which will increase the use of Victorian music in government settings.
Building on the Victorian Government's support through the Live Music Professionals Alumni Program and the Regional Music Development Program, tourism and live music will receive $2.9 million to bring Victorian acts to regional venues throughout the Surf Coast, Gippsland, Wimmera Mallee and more.
We are also delighted to confirm that our in-house Mental Health Clinician, Bree Chapman-Stewart, has been extended until at least the end of September. Book a free mental health session here.
Warmly, Simone and the team at Music Victoria.
